Loved your anecdote with your neighbor and the confidence you seem to have gained from it in your relationship with clothes and the way you dress! Why do people comment when clothes are such a good way to make you feel better? No one is getting hurt by a very good outfit 😅 I admire you for dressing well on any occasion! x

Thank you!! I appreciate you saying this—it means a lot. Xx

i LOVE how i can see one of your outfits cross my feed and I automatically know it’s you. Your style POV is so strong and such a good reminder to just do you.

This comment made my day, thank you!! Xx

I knew you were going to say ballet flats, I love that about your style! So chic, and if I saw someone wearing them in my neighborhood, I’d immediately want to be their walking buddy.

Natalia Quintero Ochoa's avatar

Ha!! If we were walking buddies, we'd be walking and yapping all day. Move to LA??!?!?! :) Xx

The “you’re dressed up” and side eye is never not annoying. Keep being you Natalia.

Thanks, Fanny!! Xx

I feel like my five year old gave me the confidence to wear what I like and not feel embarrassed by it. Overdressed or underdressed, she’s always wearing exactly what feels good to her and I try to channel that for myself. I loved reading this!

I love this so much. Kids really do have it figured out—they just wear what makes them happy. That's the whole thing!! Xx

The comment your neighbor gives about your shoes sound like the comments I get on my coats; “wow, where are you going looking so fancy?!” I love what you said about getting dressed for ourselves. I’ve never needed the approval of someone else to enjoy my coats, but now I’ve got the perfect response queued up to say 😉

PS- taking lessons on your selfie technique!

Natalia Quintero Ochoa's avatar

I've seen your coats, and my first comment to you would always be, "that coat is fcking fabulous... where did you get it?!?!?!"

Haha this is why we need to be neighbors.

I really can’t explain how much I loved this piece including your outfits. You and I have similar taste, especially in shoes, and a friend made a very snarky comment to me about always being overdressed a few years ago that honestly really stung. I love how you handled your neighbor, and you always look immaculate. And I agree - gotta be ready! p.s. I just finished “listen for the lie” which has a shout out to none other than Maurene Goo in the acknowledgments!

Natalia Quintero Ochoa's avatar

I'm so sorry your friend said that—those comments really do sting, especially when they come from people we consider friends. It's major high school mean girl behavior. But I'm so glad this resonated with you. Excited to add Listen for the Lie to my list!! Xx

A better question is perhaps why is he not dressed up?!

Kaye Bassey's avatar

I surmise that he simply wishes he looked as good as you on his walks!

i'd love to run into your neighbor one evening...in a dark alley! (jk jk he is probably elderly) i love your cool confidence and it absolutely comes through in your outfits. and eeeeek one & only shout-out!

loooooooooooool. maybe our next hang should be a neighborhood walk?!?!?! hehe

I loved these looks- especially the red socks! My anxiety was sky high this January, I’m grateful to know I’m not alone. Loved this read (as always) ❤️

Sending you a big hug, Traci. <3

Omg the whole “you’re so dressed up!” Thing… your neighbor sounds like an asshole, tbh. I would hate to have to encounter him all the time… ick.

Natalia Quintero Ochoa's avatar

I really hope he stops with this!! Xx

Yes yes yes yes yes. I am the mom who has constantly gotten comments of “you look so nice” but delivered in a pretty condescending tone. Like, thanks so much I like to feel good (and I deserve to feel good!)

Natalia Quintero Ochoa's avatar

Jeeeez. These comments are always so condescending, and I find they say more about the person saying them than the one receiving them. I'm sorry you've encountered them too. Getting dressed is so personal, and a lot of us do it to feel good! And yes, you deserve to feel good!!!

Why do we always come up with the best comebacks after leaving the conversation? Either way, I’d say this is a great comeback. So much excellence!

Natalia Quintero Ochoa's avatar

Sometimes I think it's the last of my people pleasing habits that are just trying to prevent me from resorting to two-word phrases :) hehe

I had NO IDEA about the timer when taking photos… brilliant!!

I will!

Ughhh why do (some) men feel the need to express every feeling/comment that pops into their head?? Sounds like a creep. But you look amazing and if we aren’t dressing up to walk dogs/run errands/be out in the world then what is the point?!

Natalia Quintero Ochoa's avatar

What would be the point, indeed!!??!?! I love wearing my clothes, no matter the occasion.
