Dear Reader,
I outfit repeat a lot. It makes getting dressed easier, but after a while, it can start to feel repetitive—sometimes even stale. I remember reading a brilliant post on troupe by , who wrote about getting dressed in the outfit you wore yesterday. Her advice was practical, and I turn to it often.
A few years ago, I stumbled upon
’s Instagram—I immediately loved her comments on the fashion choices of the British royal family. She noticed that many of the outfits looked similar, but not identical. She coined this styling choice “dressing for the slideshow.”I’m paraphrasing here, but my takeaway is this: slideshow dressing is about creating an intentional visual language through your clothes. It’s about curating a lineup of outfits that share subtle themes—could be through a color palette or even a silhouette. There’s a rhythm to it, and when done well, it creates a visually cohesive story across appearances. (More on dressing for the slideshow here).
This idea intrigued me, so I thought I could merge slideshow dressing + outfit repeating and create practical outfits using pieces in my closet.
Here’s what I came up with:
I’d take either the top or the bottom of yesterday’s outfit and remix it. So if today I wore a matching linen set, tomorrow I’d rewear the pants, but try it with a sweater. The day after, I'd rewear the sweater, but style it open over a tank top and with jeans. For the purposes of this post, let’s call this outfit remixing.
I tried this for a week and these were the outfits:
As a chronic outfit repeater, this process was intuitive, but also pushed me to think of different ways to style the same item. I’m excited to try this out again as we approach warmer weather — summer dressing can be tricky for me, and I have a feeling that this might make it easier.
I want to know what you think! Perhaps you already do this, or maybe you can’t get onboard the outfit repeating train. Either way, I want to know!
All my best,
Natalia
Monday
You know those Sunday reset videos all over social media? My version of that happens on Monday morning. My husband’s back at the office, the puppy’s exercised, and I have full domain over my space and time again. Grocery runs, laundry, package drop-offs, dry cleaning—there’s a lot going on!

Tuesday
Tuesday is the perfect day to work from a coffee shop. Break out of my routine, grab a yummy beverage, and lock in. I’m rewearing the jeans from Monday, this time with a ribbed tank and a vintage blazer.

Wednesday
Switching up the bottoms today, I'm styling the blazer with ecru jeans and a white tee. It’s an easy look for a day of computer work, therapy, and an afternoon doctor’s appointment. For dinner with my girlfriends, I ditch the tee and wear the blazer as a top.

Thursday
The farmers market near me runs on Thursday afternoons, and I love leaning into a “summer Thursday” by heading over around 5pm. The vibes are always great, with lots of families, kids, and live jazz. On my last visit, I picked up a big bag of peas, strawberries, and artichokes.

Friday
I really enjoy visiting museums on Fridays. Some stay open until 7pm on Fridays, which makes for a lovely way to ease into the weekend. The visit often ends with an ice cream or a crispy Diet Coke at the museum cafe.

p.s. I am SOLD on capris. I’ve worn these DONNI. capris so much the past few weeks (as a set and separately), and really love how light and airy they are. Wore them to a Mother’s Day pool hangout, to the farmers market, for a puppy playdate, and to a museum visit.
Saturday
After grabbing coffees and pastries, we’re off to the park for a puppy (and adult) playdate with friends. This spring weather is perfect for sweaters and capris—my version of a sweater and shorts combo.

Sunday
After sleeping in, I’m running out the door to meet my aunt for coffee. I love catching up with her—especially on Sundays so we can talk about that weekend’s edition of How To Spend It.

You can see the outfits in video action here! I’m working on the whole TikTok transition thing, haha.
Love this breakdown and love looking at your soothing outfits as per usual! Let's do a coffee writing date on Tuesday sooooon xx
No, but you don’t understand how badly I wanted to read this. I have not heard of slideshow dressing but it perfectly sums up my desire when getting dressed! I want all of my outfits to feel cohesive and communicate a POV that feels true to me.
Practically speaking I love the outfits you wore but I also love how strong of a through line they have between one another and (truthfully) I wouldn’t notice the repeating items! I need to dive deeper on this concept; thank you for tickling my brain this morning.
